Saturday, October 25th
Starting at 8am at KPAC, we will start everything off with an informal meet and greet over coffee and muffins. The rest of the day will be full of talks by renowned artists and art experts.
Our first speaker will be Molly Raher Newman. Artist & Author, Molly has played the role of Emily Carr for over 7 years, while entertaining and educating local and international visitors with stories of her life and readings from her journals and books. Molly herself is an artist and yet she is still inspired to perform in Emily Carr’s character to focus attention on the written works of Emily Carr - seven volume books of Emily's life & schooling in, about early Victoria. Emily's anecdotes, thoughts, journals and, artist's notes comprise the complete body of her written works. Molly's broad art training in Europe and in San Francisco set a foundation for her living interpretation of Emily Carr's spirit and her style.
Australian Potter, Greg Crowe is our second guest speaker. Highly respected for his wheel-throwing skill and wood firing effects, Greg's vessels explore the textural boundaries of the clay body. Stretched and torn, the roughly marked surfaces are enhanced by their salt-glazed veneers, in varying degrees of translucency, and in a range of diverse colour. “My current salt-glazed work concentrates on clay bodies and slips developed from locally dug materials. I am fascinated by the colour responses in areas protected or shielded from full exposure to the salt vapours.” Greg Crowe is the lecturer for ceramics at the West Coast College of TAFE, Carine Campus in Western Australia.
Our last speaker of the day will be Private Art Dealer, Doug MacLean. With over 25 years of gallery experience, Doug MacLean will share his take on contemporary art and issues around collecting and exhibiting it. His Canadian Art Gallery, based in Canmore, specializes in historical and contemporary paintings, original prints, sculpture and fine art photography by Canadian and international artists.
He has developed and continues to have a working relationship with many important dealers across the country. In his talk, Doug will discuss art sales and exhibitions from coast to coast. He’ll share his thoughts on the art he likes, and on exhibitions he didn’t like. “Stimulating, insightful, possibly even controversial, Doug’s talk promises to generate plenty of discussion.”

This powerful full-length play will shine insight into Vincent’s conflicted life and the people that had influenced him in his love, his passion and his art.Played brilliantly by Wayne Empey, the principal character of Theo van Gogh struggles to convince the audience that his brother was not, in fact, a fool or a madman. Written by author/actor Leonard Nimoy this sensitive story is based on letters written by Vincent to his brother throughout his short life.
